Fort DeRussy
E. T. King
Capt. and Mustering Officer
Notes: Those names lined through were not at Fort
DeRussy when the fort was captured in 1864.
And yes, Captain Hutton, the company commander, was under arrest at the
time of this roll. The reason for his arrest is not known. He was
court-martialed after the Red River Campaign, but whether that court was a
result of this arrest, or of later conduct, is also unknown. According to
John Murray's diary, Hutton was acquitted at the court-martial, but the
charges were never mentioned.
This Muster Roll courtesy of Sherrie Pugh,
Librarian, Jackson Barracks Military Library.
