Fort DeRussy, Louisiana, is located on the Red River about three miles from Marksville in Avoyelles Parish. In 1994, it was rescued from oblivion by a group of local people with an interest in the area's history. That group has grown to become the Friends of Fort DeRussy, Inc., with members throughout the world, and we would like to include you in our number. Please consider helping us bring Fort DeRussy back from obscurity to the place it deserves in American history.

Fort DeRussy became a Louisiana State Historic Site in 1999. Unfortunately, it remains undeveloped. In summer, 2005, the State Legislature voted over $800,000 to begin construction on the site, but in September hurricanes Katrina and Rita blew that money away. Your contributions continue to be necessary for the improvements at Fort DeRussy.

This may not be changing anytime soon. Although the Office of State Parks had architectural plans drawn for a Visitor Center on the site, the current administration has given Tourism and Historical Interpretation a very low priority in Louisiana. All the more reason we need to Support the Fort.

Friend of Fort DeRussy is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Your donations are tax-deductible.
